ARC106. Fossil stromatolite slab, polished on one side.
These rare stromatolites are from the Archaean "Gindalbie Formation" with an age of approx. 2.6 - 2.8 billion years.
They have not been positively identified but have characteristics
typical of the group, Thyssagetes.
It has been suggested that these stromatolites may have grown in hot springs associated with volcanism, rather than in a marine tidal to subtidal
They occur in the Eastern Goldfields area. Closest town is Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
Approx. 280 mm x 140 mm x 13 mm thick .
