This stone occurs in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It occurs as a single vein, no thicker than 250mm that cross cuts the Weeli Wolli formation, a banded iron formation, (commonly jaspilitic) which is also intruded by metadoleritic sills. The quartz epidote axinite mineralisation was evidently caused by hydrothermal activity related to the doleritic sills which are in close proximity to the occurrence.
