TI338   Tiger Iron rough rock, cut and polished on one side with a rough natural back and a cut base to stand as a display specimen.

Dimensions at widest points approximately 165 mm  x 130 mm x 80 mm thick.

Weighs:  3,825 grams

From the Cleaverville Formation, Ord Ranges near Port Hedland, Western Australia. Age is over 3 billion years.


 

Tiger iron is a banded iron formation (BIF) or jaspilite that has alternating layers of black and brown hematite/magnetite, red jasper and chatoyant golden tiger eye.
