TI378  Tiger Iron slab, polished on one side.

Unusual specimen from a strongly weathered section of the outcrop.

Dimensions at widest points approximately 190 mm  x 120 mm x 15 mm thick.

Weighs: 730 grams

From the Cleaverville Formation, Ord Ranges near Port Hedland, Western Australia. Age is over 3 billion years.


Tiger iron is a banded iron formation (BIF) or jaspilite that has alternating layers of black and brown hematite/magnetite, red jasper and chatoyant golden tiger eye.
