Petrified Wood (Eocene)
Petrified wood along W.A.’s south coast is commonly weathered from the Pallinup Siltstone—a Late Eocene (roughly ~34-41 million years ago), shallow-marine unit of siltstone and spongolite in the Plantagenet Group. Faunal markers (nautiloids, forams, sponges) support the age, with silicified wood preserved in these beds.
